A 50-year-old Filipino woman, who was on her way to Riyadh from Manila, had excess baggage and was advised to open her bag and remove “excess baggage.”

In response, the woman replied that “she had a bomb, which can blow up the plane.”

That was a big mistake in her part.

The woman, who was supposed to board an afternoon flight to Saudi Arabia to see her husband, was detained on Saturday, August 8, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Director of Aviation Security Group Chief Superintendent Pablo Francisco Balagtas confirmed the arrest. The woman said she did not know bomb jokes were a criminal offense.

In the Philippines, making a bomb joke is punishable by a 5-year jail term, a fine, or both under PD 1727. According to Philippine Airlines, the plane took off and landed without delay despite the incident.

The offending woman was not identified.

Spoilsport as it may seem, there is a law that prohibits such things. It takes a painful experience for some stubborn people to know it is dead serious about the law.

Take this tweet for instance, from a joker who has profusely repented for her actions.

You simply can't say "Airports are serious business" in this because not only is there a law about it, lives and time are not a joke.

Quoting a generic adage that applies to all… “IGNORANCE OF THE LAW EXCUSES NO ONE.”
