Does anyone remember the meme pic inspired by the film Batman VS. Superman, reported by Politics PH?
Vice presidential aspirant Sen. Ferdinand āBongbongā Marcos Jr. is all suited up to save the country… at least in a meme created by supporters back in 2015.
Marcos shared a photo of a superhero team-up with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on his Instagram page, writing: āDonāt know who put this together but it made my morning!ā
In the photo, Marcosā image is superimposed on a Superman gear with the description āNation Builder of the Northā while Duterteās face is on a Batman suit with the words āThe Punisher of the South.ā
The meme was entitled āDuterte-Marcos: The Philippines can be great again. 2016.ā
Marcos posted the meme even though he will be running alongside Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago in the 2016 elections. The son and namesake of the late President Ferdinand Marcos at that time already filed his certificate of candidacy to run for vice president.
Duterte, on the other hand, has turned down calls to seek the presidency more than once, saying he plans to retire from public service instead. He relented in a surprising move substituting for a fellow PDP-Laban candidate, long after the candidacy deadline. The rest, they say, is turbulent history.
Jump to 6 months later, the meme is now but a presaging.
Who would’ve thought this mockup of a meme would come almost very close to being a reality? Duterte’s mandate of being the Punisher is unquestionably inevitable now, though the Nation Builder’s battle still continues as the Yellow Widow (probably the equivalent of Wonder Woman) wrestled and continues leading the unofficial tally for Vice President.
