After learning that the alleged recruiter of Mary Jane Veloso has surrendered, Indonesian President Joko Widodo called a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Radio DZBB said Widodo called the meeting to discuss the case of Veloso hours before her execution.

The 72-hour Indonesian deadline will end at 6 p.m. (Philippine Time) but the exact time of execution has not been announced by the Attorney General’s Office of Indonesia, to ensure smooth implementation of the execution, which was reported to have experienced problems before from observers who tried to intervene.

Media reports said Indonesian Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto confirmed that the Indonesian government was already notified that the alleged recruiter of Veloso has been placed under Philippine police custody, placing a possible scenario of Veloso spared of her life to testify against her recruiter, and to help pinpoint the drug ring that got her into death row.

Philippine President Benigno Aquino III earlier made the suggestion to spare her life and turn her into a state witness after clemency appeals failed repeatedly.
