No one saw coming Rodrigo Duterte’s Vice Presidential candidate Alan Peter Cayetano’s move to put a halt to anti-Duterte advertisements.
Now under the pain of law, ABS-CBN is forbidden until further notice to broadcast the much-reviled ads demonizing Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, in an attempt to besmirch his reputation using children.
Despite Antonio Trillanes IV’s gloating that it was ‘the truth’ and exposing ‘hypocrisy’ among Duterte supporters, using its highly-edited and spliced recordings, it does run afoul in existing election, national and even United Nations laws and mandates.
MTRCB and Commission on Elections are pointing fingers on who should take responsibility for the ad.
Cayetano also questioned why his ad was barred by the TV station’s ethics committee but allowed Trillanes’ ad despite alarmingly-profound red flags of possible violations.
A running Facebook rumor is currently spreading that the parent of one of the child depicted in the ad is dismayed at the ads, disguised as a ‘Duterte Advocacy’ ad. It is currently unknown if the said parent will press charges.
