Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company’s cellular arm, Smart Communications, Inc will hold a Clash of Clans tournament this year with over P2 million in prizes up for grabs.
The initial elimination leg of the Clash of Clans tournament by Smart Communications, Inc. is now set for Aug. 2 in Metro Manila. Provinces and other cities will immediately follow at announced dates.
According to Smart, each five-member clan will start at the same level during the competition, with the winner to be determined by the team having the most number of trophies at the end of a six-hour gameplay.
Erin Montenejo, senior product officer of Smart’s GameX, said first placers during the qualifiers will take home P25,000, while the champion may win P500,000 along with phones and gadgets.
After the provincial elimination legs, the tournament will culminate in “one big final clash” in October in Metro Manila. Smart said they will also hold tutorials and a cosplay competition during the finals event, which will also be attended by YouTube personalities Chief Pat and Galadon and a representative from Clash of Clans developer Supercell.
“Naging popular na talaga ang Clash of Clans (It has become so popular) so we want to support them by covering the hardcore and the casual gamers,” said Chips Villanueva, Smart brand manager.
Representatives from the Philippine Clash of Clans Battleground (PCCB), the biggest online community of COC players in the country, advised interested gamers to prepare to spend money and prepare a careful strategy.
“We suggest na mag-ready sila bumili ng gems kasi paunahan talaga na parang karera ang mangyayari (they should be ready to buy gems since it’ll be like race),” PCCB CEO Argel dela Cruz said.
“But it’s not all about the money. You still need to think about how you’re going to play and it’s also a matter of luck,” said Gwen Magalona, PCCB COO.
